LG Police Recover Thousands Of Dollars in Stolen Antiques

Last week La Grange Police recovered over $10,000 worth of antiques that were stolen from a storage unit in town.

Police Chief David Gilbreath said the property owners reported the burglary on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. The items were stolen from a unit in Weeren Storage on State Highway 159. The items included two red Bermina sewing machines, an antique green towel rack, an antique oak secretary cabinet, a half-round china cabinet, and an antique dark brown hobby horse.

“We got all of it back, along with a few items the owners didn’t even realize were stolen,” Gilbreath said.

Gilbreath said investigators identified a female suspect from La Grange and interviewed her on Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Wednesday, Aug. 16.

“We recovered the items at that time,” Gilbreath said.

Gilbreath said police are waiting for a warrant before arresting the woman and releasing her name.

“The owners got really lucky,” Gilbreath said. “If people are going to keep valuable items in storage, they need to take pictures, write down serial numbers, or engrave their name on it. If this stuff ended up at one of the antiques shows, I don’t think we would have gotten it back.”
