LaVerne (Schulz) Kalbow, 91, of La Grange was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange. LaVerne was born in Welcome, Texas on Sept. 14, 1925 the daughter of Alfred and Frieda (Glaeser) Schulz. She was united in marriage to Arthur Kalbow on May 19, 1946, and they were blessed with 52 years of marriage and two beautiful daughters, Linda Kay and Cheryl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Welcome Lutheran Church. Her faith in God and church were and important part of her life. After living in La Marque for 28 years and being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, they retired in La Grange where they enjoyed being active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and Arthur enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends. After retirement, they traveled all over the United States and Canada. LaVerne’s loving and friendly nature endeared her to whomever she met, making everyone feel welcomed and included in her circle of love. Her memory lives on in all the lives she touched with her joy in the Lord, wit, and kindness. She is survived by daughter, Linda Roesle and husband, Ken; son-in-law, Patrick Welsh; grandchildren: Jennifer Elliott and husband, Tommy and their children Peyton and Dane; Chad Roesle; Amber and Adrian Gonzalez; Jason Welsh and wife, Natalie and their children, Courtney and Rob Grass; brother, Rev. Leslie Schulz and wife, Margaret; brother-in-law, Alfred Kalbow; sister-in-law, Lois Kalbow; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Kalbow; her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Hertha Kalbow; daughter, Cheryl Welsh; sister, Etta Waag and husband Leslie; brother, Alvin Schulz and wife Esther; brother-in- law, Raymond Kalbow and sister-in-law, Leona Kalbow. Visitation was held on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home at 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at 110 W. Walnut in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017. Burial followed at Welcome Cemetery in Welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O.
