Flood Ravages Rural Infrastructure
Fayette County roads and other rural infrastructure took a pounding from Hurricane Harvey over the weekend.
Some low water crossings are finally opening up today, but a number of county roads remain impassable due to damage. The pictures above were submitted by Pct. 1 Commissioner Jason Broom. They show some of the devastation in his area north of La Grange.
Perhaps the biggest infrastructure headache for the county following the storm lies on Bohuslav Road near Ammannsville. There, torrential rainfall overwhelmed a flood control structure under the road about a mile north of Ammannsville. The rushing water took out a 48 inch pipe and gouged out a cavernous hole in the road. Pct. 4 Commissioner Tom Muras expected the repairs to take six months or longer.
