Calvin O. Lange

Calvin O. Lange, 92, of La Grange, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017. Calvin was born in Oldenburg on Oct. 23, 1924, a son of the Katie (Onken) and Otto Lange. He married Dorothy (Weikel) Lange. Their marriage was held Jan. 1, 1947 in Warrenton. This date was chosen due to Calvin being one of twelve children and their parents allowed only one marriage per year. It was so cold that all the vehicles were iced over, they could not open the doors due to the icing, to leave on their honeymoon. Calvin served in the U.S. Army from June of 1943 to 1945. Calvin’s wounded arm was saved while serving, with the use of the new drug called “penicillin.” He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and began his accounting career with Chevron, where he worked for over 30 years. He served as a volunteer for Second Chance, held an office with the Seniors Activities Center, was a faithful member of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church serving as a counter and a member of the Men’s Club. He was a member of Sons of Herman and the VFW. Calvin won a Humanitarian Award in La Grange. He enjoyed playing dominoes and bridge, cooking, dancing and fishing. He was a very sociable good hearted person. Calvin is survived by a daughter, Betty Lorentzen, of La Grange; two brothers, Barnell Lange and wife, Betty Joyce, of Spring; Gilbert Lange and wife, Mildred, of Bellville; two granddaughters, Amy Lorentzen of Houston and Emily Lorentzen Simpson and husband, Tory, of Midland; one grandson, John Calvin Lorentzen and wife, Christy, of Lindenhurst, Illinois; one great granddaughter, Eleanor (Ellie) Lorentzen; two great grandsons, David Calvin Lorentzen and Grant Simpson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; a dear friend, Ruby Tielsch. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dorothy, his wife, of 50 years; son, Michael Calvin Lange; four brothers: Herbert Lange and wife, Eleanor; Wesley (Bob) Lange and wife, Violet; Milton Lange; Kermit Lange; five sisters: Louise Hudspeth and husband, C.B.; Nola Seibert and husband, Harry; Norma Gerdes and husband, Wilbert; Viola Marburger and husband, Marvin; Edna Havemann and husband, Edwin. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, prior to the funeral service, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin in La Grange. Burial will follow in Rutersville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, 5433 Westheimer Suite 300, Houston, Texas 77056, Mt.
