Longtime Fayette County, Texas resident, Lawrence Ludwick Chovanec, 83, died Sept. 4, 2017, with his family by his side at the VA Hospice Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla. Lawrence was born in Ellinger on Aug. 10, 1934, the son of Ed E. and Rosie L. (Janecka) Chovanec. Lawrence, or what many called him, Lonestar Larry, was a jack of all trades and a master of none, as he would put it. He loved spending countless hours fixing bicycles, drinking Lone Star beer, and listening to Polka Music, but what he loved most, was being with his family and friends! He would give them the shirt off his back, even if it was his last one! Lawrence served in the United State Air Force as a Transportation Airman and was honorably discharged. He worked many years for FMC Corporation in Houston and later became self-employed as “Larry, the Bicycle Man.” He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Fayetteville, Texas, K.J.T. (Czech Catholic Union of Texas) and S.P. J. S.T. (Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas). Lawrence spent his entire life in Texas until a recent move to be with his children and grandchildren in Florida. He is survived by his sons, Lawrence L. Chovanec Jr. and Edward Jay Charles Chovanec and daughter, Rose Chovanec Warner; brothers, Ludwick and wife, Margie of Hockley, Edward R. (Hoot) and wife, Minnie Ann of Columbus and Jerome (Jerry) and wife, Shirley of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; and five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed E. and Rosie L. Chovanec. Services will be held in a private ceremony at a later date. Donations can be sent to a fund for Lawrence Chovanec’s autistic son, Lawrence Jr. via PayPal.Me/LawrenceChovanec or as well as condolences, may be sent to 202 S.E. 1st Circle, Boynton Beach, FL 33435 c/o Rose Warner.
