Wanda Marie (Splawn) Montez, “Nana,”

Wanda Marie (Splawn) Montez, “Nana,” 56, of West Point, joined the Heavens on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017. Wanda was born in La Grange on May 22, 1961 to Plato and Jane (Garcia) Splawn, Sr. She attended school in La Grange and Van Horn. She graduated from La Grange High School in 1979. Wanda married Jesse Montez on April 17, 1989 in West Point. It is appropriate that God took her on Labor Day. She worked so hard all of her life to take care of her family and others. Now she can rest from any kind of labor. We are heartbroken, but her battle has ended and she is no longer in pain or suffering. Her lungs have become her angel wings. She worked as a Caregiver in later years, but started her career as a cook for the Cottonwood Inn, Weikel’s and Lukas Bakery. Wanda is survived by her husband, Jesse; daughter, Jessica Marie Montez of West Point; sister, Connie Moeller and husband, Darrell, of St. John; brother, Plato Splawn, Jr. of Huntsville; two half-sisters: Linda Guerra and husband, Richard, and Tracy Uballe and husband, Anthony, all of Seguin; half-brother, David Corrales of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Little Debbie and Sandra Psencik; two brothers: Paul and Marcos Splawn. Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic in Plum at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Fayette County Animal Shelter, Hospice Brazos Valley, or a charity of one’s choice.
