During the heat of late June, we booked a trip for early September to the Davis Mountains, a cooler, higher elevation, but not too high. We rented a little house through AirBnB, our first attempt to use that app. Hale’s low sodium diet is easier to control if we can cook, instead of having to eat in restaurants.

We hadn’t anticipated Harvey, the floods, the lack of gasoline on the highways, the guilt that came from leaving home, voluntarily, when so many others had been forced to leave. I found myself thinking a lot about what home means. What is it? Where is it?
