Looters Striking Flooded Mobile Home Park

La Grange Police have received three reports of theft from homes that were flooded in Country Way Village.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, a resident reported that someone took the outside air conditioning unit from their trailer house. The next day, on Sept. 13, a resident reported that someone took a riding lawnmower that was parked under the edge of his trailer home. Also on that day, another resident reported someone took chairs, rugs and a table from her flooded trailer house.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said there were no witnesses to any of the thefts. Police have not identified any suspects. Gilbreath said other thefts may have taken place, but residents have not reported them to police.

In the days following the flood, police established checkpoints around the flooded mobile home parks and kept everyone out of the area until the parks opened for cleanup. Gilbreath said the thefts began after police closed the checkpoints. Police have increased patrols in the area. Anyone with information about these crimes should contact La Grange Police at (979) 968-5806.
