James Alvin Hicks
James Alvin Hicks, 94, of La Grange, formerly of Boerne, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, in La Grange. James Alvin was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Utopia, Texas, to Junius “J.A.” and Sara (Jenkins) Hicks. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting deer, turkey, and squirrels. He graduated from Utopia High School and started his career with U.S. Civil Service. He was stationed both stateside at the San Antonio Arsenal and Air Depot at Duncan Field, as well as overseas at the Burtonwood Air Depot in the U.K. as part of the Station X Project. After he returned to the U.S. he served for two years in the Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to civil service where he spent most of his 35 year career at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. James Alvin married the love of his life, Roseanne Cavanaugh, on Nov. 11, 1945. The couple met while they were both serving in the Navy at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. James Alvin is survived by his three daughters, Devery Ann Regmund, Mary Catherine Wolfington and her husband, Ron, and Linda Kay Gialouris; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brother, Vernon; numerous nieces and nephews as well as dear friends. James Alvin was preceded by his wife of over 69 years, Roseanne Hicks, who passed away on Feb. 14, 2015; his parents, J.A. and Sara Hicks; four brothers, William Douglas Hicks, Fabian Allen Hicks, Charles Gilbert Hicks and Bruce Hicks; and his sister, Shirley Wantzloeben.
