Janis Lou (McDonald) Cannon, 64, of La Grange, died Sept. 15, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Janis was born in Weimar on May 26, 1953 to Rudy Lane (RL) McDonald and Emily Jean (Fahrenthold) McDonald. She is survived by her mother; step-father, Bill Appelt; sister, Ginger Mitchell and her husband David of Fredericksburg; brother, Murray Mc- Donald and his wife Cindy of Victoria; husband, Mike Cannon of La Grange; son, Beau Cannon of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Aubra McGuire and her husband Ryan and sons Max and Rhett of San Antonio; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Cannon of Georgetown; and sister-in-law, Debbie Charbonneau of Spring. Janis and Mike lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Saudi Arabia and Spain and traveled to many countries including but not limited to Mexico, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Cypress, Greece, Turkey, France, England, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Costa Rica and recently a most favorite trip for five weeks in St. John, USVI. Janis graduated from Southwest Texas State and was certified to teach K-12 in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and California. Janis minored in Art and was really talented at pen and ink and water colors. Janis loved to cook and entertain. She collected cook books, watched cooking programs and constantly tried new recipes. Janis was the consummate volunteer. She constantly supported her children’s teachers, was a Boy Scout Leader, was a Xi Beta member, screened vendors and artists for Midland’s Museum of Southwest’s annual Septemberfest, was Board member of Midland’s Soup Kitchen, coordinated Midland Lee High School DYFIT (Drug Free Youth in Texas) program and hosted foreign exchange students from France, England, Bulgaria and Russia. Janis was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer for many years and demonstrated a special talent for defending and befriending abused or neglected children. Janis’s legacy and greatest attribute was her lifetime commitment, care and love for children. Janis and Mike had a full, rewarding life together and were tremendously wealthy in family and friends. Memorial Services will be held at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club in La Grange at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties, P.O. Box 623 Bastrop, Texas, 78602.
