Mertz

Burdella Julia (Lange) Mertz, 84, of Waldeck, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Burdella was born in Waldeck, Texas on Aug. 8, 1933, the daughter of Gustav and Tillie (Kruse) Lange. She married Reimund Mertz on Jan. 24, 1954. She worked in the cafeteria of the Houston Independent School District and the Spring Branch Independent School District. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of other people, spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at her church in Waldeck where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She is survived by husband, Reimund; son, Gary Mertz and wife, Debra of Houston; daughter, Audrey Sternadel and husband, Luke of Waldeck; brother, Emmit Lange and wife Janie, of Waldeck; grandchildren: Daniel Mertz; Christopher Mertz; Jamie Faulk; Clint Sternadel and special Friend, Kristie Barker; Gavin Sternadel; Amber Sternadel; great grandchildren: Briana Faulk; Jalon Faulk; Jonathan Faulk and Brandon Faulk; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and foster children. She was fondly referred to as “Nana” by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kermit Lange and wife, Dorothy; two sisters: Vadie Nietsche and husband, Johnnie and Cedall Baack and husband, Tom. Visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange. Family will received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Funeral Services were held at Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017. Burial followed at Waldeck Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waldeck Lutheran Church Altar Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
