Gustav Martin Pietsch, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Virginia Anne (Alexander) Pietsch; his daughters Suzanne (Pietsch) Poole and Loraine Pietsch; son-in-law James Poole; grandson, James Alexander Poole; and many close friends. He was born and raised in La Grange. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Lenora (Voss) Pietsch and his two older brothers, Edward and Herman Pietsch. Gus graduated from La-Grange High School in 1961. In his early years, he was an aerospace mechanic for the United States Air Force based out of Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base. He went on to become a self-taught mechanical engineer. One of Gus’ favorite sayings was, “If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.” Gus had high standards in all of his endeavors. He had a true passion for farming, fishing, hunting, collecting fire arms, and bee keeping. He was considered one of the best barbecuers and even had his own secret marinade rub. Gus enjoyed trying various beers, German beer was his favorite of course. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family is in the process of planning a memorial service to follow at a later date. Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home in Houston was in charge of arrangements.
