A stout defense coupled with a juggernaut ground game stood the La Grange Leopards in good stead as they overpowered the A&M Consolidated Tigers, 27-0. In the third quarter when the Bengals got as far as the Leps’ 24, the drive was nipped by Darold Moellenberndt’s pass interception. The left-footed punting of Scott Bayless aided and abetted in keeping the Bengals contained.

Animal health officials and Texas livestock producers expressed grave concern over the rapidly rising number of screwworm cases confirmed in the state. Sixty-eight cases had been verified in the previous 10 days, upping the Texas tally for the year to 300 cases, an increase over the prior year.
