Flood Victims Here Getting Much More Than Those Elsewhere
Victims of the Hurricane Harvey flood in Fayette County received over three times as much federal aid money per person than victims elsewhere in the state on average. When asked about the curious figure, FEMA spokesperson Jann Tracey could not explain the statistic but said she would look into it.
Most federal disaster aid money comes to victims through three Federal Emergency Management Agency programs: Individual and Household Assistance Program (IHP), Housing Assistance Program (HA) and the Ongoing Needs Program (ON).
Most of the aid distributed so far has been through the IHP and HA programs. FEMA has regularly posted the number of qualified disaster aid applications and the total amount of disaster aid disbursed since the disaster began.
Individual and household assistance aid per application in Fayette County amounted to $11,574.48. The per capita average for the other counties was $3,351.62. Under the housing assistance program, Fayette County victims received an average of $14,984.78. The per capital average for the other counties under that program was $4,770.66 ...
