Oversized Load Takes Out Telephone Service in Fayetteville – Again
An oversized load struck a telephone pole in Fayetteville Thursday morning, Dec. 7, knocking out telephone service in Fayetteville and Ellinger until late afternoon.
According to Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the truck was heading east on SH 159 and attempted to turn right onto FM 955 when it hit a telephone pole belonging to Frontier Communications.
The accident happened around 9 a.m. and disrupted landline telephone service to much of the Fayetteville and Ellinger area. Frontier Communications restored service around 4:30 p.m.
Frontier customers with the 378 prefix could call each other but could not make calls outside the dialing area, including 911. The county routed 911 calls in Ellinger and Fayetteville to the Fayetteville Fire Station. Noviskie, who also serves as chief of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, stayed at the fire station throughout the day to answer emergency calls, but none came. Wireless telephone service was not affected, so citizens could still call 911 from their cell phones.
Noviskie said it was the third time this year that an oversized load hit the telephone pole at that corner and disrupted telephone service.
