My Brown Thumb

No one has ever accused me of having a “green thumb,” that was more my mother’s forte. She could take a cutting from a plant, place it in water, have it transplanted into a pot after a few days or weeks and keep it alive for years.

I, on the other hand, have trouble keeping a cactus alive. Currently, I have one aloe vera plant in my kitchen window that has been there for years and miraculously is still alive.

After coming to work at the newspaper office, I noticed that our front area was very bare. We had some nice pots with no plants in them. I asked and was told that no one was able to keep anything alive there. Between the heat, the concrete and the brick wall, it was just too hot.
