Stolen Electricity Case Leads to Discovery of Another Crime
An investigation into stolen electricity led to two arrests for drug and gun charges in Schulenburg Tuesday evening, Dec. 11.
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the case began when a City of Schulenburg employee noticed the lights on at a house where the City had previous removed the electrical meter loop for nonpayment of utilities. The house is located at the corner of Bucek Street about a block away from the Schulenburg ISD campus.
Brenek said officers found that a resident of the home, 36-year-old Ryan Johnson, had bypassed the meter loop in order to power the home without paying for electricity. Police obtained a warrant for Johnson’s arrest, charging him with felony criminal mischief. Around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Duane Meagher and Sgt. Kyle Hengst of the Schulenburg Police went to serve the warrant.
