Jesse A. Coufal, 84, of Galveston (formerly of Fayetteville) passed away peacefully at home with his family on Dec. 24, 2017. He was born on June 21, 1933 to William and Louise Coufal in Fayetteville. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as an Airman First Class in Germany. Immediately after his military service, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Hubenak, on June 16, 1957 at the Industry Brethren Church. They were blessed with two children as they made their home in Galveston. Jesse attended The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He started his career at John Sealy Hospital as a staff physical therapist. He then became the Director of Physical Therapy at St. Mary’s hospital for many years. During this time, he enjoyed a very successful career and made many lasting friendships. He retired at a young and healthy age to enjoy life to the fullest with his wife and family. Jesse spent many wonderful years enjoying all of life’s blessings living on the coast including fishing, crabbing and duck hunting. He also enjoyed many other outdoor activities in Fayetteville, goose and deer hunting and fishing. He instilled his love of the outdoors with his family. He was a devoted son and husband, a loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa and uncle. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Elizabeth, his parents, two sisters, two brothers, five brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws. He is survived by his son Ken Coufal and Terri Benyi, his daughter Karen Chapman and husband Ray, his grandsons Brandon Coufal and wife Corey, Grannon Chapman and Konnor Chapman and his great grandchildren, Logan and Lacee Coufal. He is also survived by his two brothers and their spouses Joe Coufal Sr and Anita, Lee Coufal and Elenora, sister Eleanora Freimel and sister-in-laws, Mildred Kubicek and Lillian Coufal and numerous special nieces, nephews and other family and friends. The family wishes to thank Jesse’s faithful and caring caregivers: Vera Cooper, Mary Praylor and Cynthia Bates. A special thanks to Dr. Megan Berman and Eva Cavazos of UTMB. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at the Industry Brethren Church, 2758 Main Street, P.O. Box 73, Industry, Texas 78944. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Industry Brethren Church in memory of Jesse.
