Schulenburg Police arrested an Alaskan man for possessing illegal hash oil following a traffic stop last Tuesday.

According to a report from Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek, Sgt. Kyle Hengst stopped a grey Ford Mustang near the corner of Lyons Avenue and Simpson Street on Jan. 9 around 5:40 p.m. Hengst stopped the vehicle because it was not displaying any license plates.

Hengst identified the driver as 23-year-old Connor Larson of Anchorage, Alaska.

“While conducting the traffic stop and speaking to Larson, Sgt. Hengst noticed that he was acting very nervous and Hengst also observed several criminal indicators in the vehicle,” Brenek said in the report. “Based on these indicators, Hengst asked for consent to search the vehicle, which Larson granted.”

During the search, Hengst located a black box which contained a glass pipe and several packages of hash oil. Brenek said Larson at first stated that he had a doctor’s prescription for the oil, but then changed his story and said he did not have a prescription.

Hengst arrested Larson for possession of a controlled substance, penalty grade 2, between four and 400 grams. Brenek said the hash oil weighed 22 grams, which resulted in a felony charge for Larson.

Hash oil is a concentrated form of cannabis that is not legal in Texas, although 19 states and the District of Columbia have legalized the substance for medical or recreational use.

The only form of cannabis currently legal in Texas is CBD oil, a cannabis extract that contains low levels of THC, the psychoactive substance responsible for the plant’s euphoric and pain-relieving effects, and it is only available to patients suffering from severe forms of epilepsy.
