James W. “Shorty” Carlton

James W. “Shorty” Carlton, 76, of La Grange, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. He was born Nov. 1, 1941 to Love Carlton and Emma (Corothers) Carlton. He was the owner of Carlton Waste Disposal Services. and a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Weimar. He married Dorothy (Homer) Carlton on July 3, 1966 in La Grange. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Homer) Carlton of La Grange; daugther, Latesia Carlton of La Grange; sons, James R. Carlton of La Grange and Anthony W. Carlton of Houston; sisters, Rosie Lee Scott of La Grange, Willie Lee Scott of La Grange, Frances Scott of La Grange, and Artio Ellis of Houston; brother, Frank Scott of Houston; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 with the Rev. Austin Jones officiating. Burial followed in Little Bethal Cemetery in La Grange. Tommy E. Taylor Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
