Sister Helen Kallus
Sister Helen Kallus, 94, an Oblate of St. Benedict of Lisle, III died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018. Born in Rutersville, she was the daughter of Richard J. and Frances Janda Kallus. She was the last surviving child of 11 siblings. Sister Helen is survived by sister-in-law, Ann Kallus of La Grange and numbers nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Josephine and Sisters Bernadette and Martha Kallus; and brothers, Ernest, Richard F., George, Louis, Edward, and Jerry. One brother died in infancy. A funeral Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel in Lisle, Ill. at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 with interment at the St. Procopius Cemetery in Lisle. Through all the labors and joys of her 94 years, Sister Helen remained faithful to her calling. She persevered by the grace of God through 77 years of religious life. She knew from experience what St. Benedict taught in the Prologue to his Rule – “through patient sharing in the sufferings of Christ on earth we will receive a share in His kingdom.”
