Unknown Explosion Rocks Western Fayette County
Residents across much of the western half of Fayette County reported hearing a loud ‘boom’ Saturday night, Jan. 20.
The sound of an explosion was reported in Flatonia, Cistern, Muldoon, West Point and the western edge of La Grange. Those who heard it said it happened around 7:30 p.m.
Lt. David Beyer of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said 911 dispatchers received several calls about the sound. He said deputies investigated but were unable to find a source.
Media outlets in Austin reported a loud explosion an hour earlier in southern Hays County. News reports said a loud ‘boom’ could be heard throughout the south Austin area. That explosion was attributed to a large quantity of Tannerite, an explosive sometimes used in target shooting.
