Becoming an Informed Voter

Watching the State of the Union Address Tuesday night, I realized that I was actually paying attention. I realized how important this was to our country. I wanted to hear what our president had to say. Whether you agree or disagree with what is said is not the issue. When the President of the United States is speaking, we need to all pay attention. Not that I haven’t before now, but I can still vividly remember when I didn’t care and when I started to.

I know I’m aging myself when I say this, but I remember, as a child, dreading any presidential message. Those of you who are my age or older remember the days when there were only three channels on television – ABC, NBC and CBS. Whenever the president gave any type of address, all three networks would air it and, of course, my parents were going to watch it.
