On Hold Again

Automated answering systems are great when all you need to do is leave a message for a call back, but when you need to speak to a live human and there is no way to do that without going through a menu of multiple choice buttons, it gets to be a bit much.

Once you finally get a human on the other end of the line, there’s nothing worse than being put on hold, well, unless it’s the annoying music that is played while you wait. Or the repetitive, “Your call is very important to us.”

I had several of those experiences this week. On every single one of them, I had a question that I needed to get resolved, today, and every one of them started with a 1-800 number.

The phone calls all started with, “You have been selected to participate in a special survey on your satisfaction with our service at the end of this call. Press 1 if you want to participate in this survey. Press 2 if you do not wish to participate.” I pressed 2 because I didn’t want to spend any more time on this phone call than necessary.
