A Funeral Mass for Sylvester Bernard Sivek, 101, of La Grange, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange. Interment will follow in La Grange City Cemetery. Visitation was from noon until 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 in the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the family present from 5 until 7 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sylvester was born June 19, 1916 in Wallis to Teresa Pisklak Sivek and Joseph Sivek. He married Helen Elizabeth Larson in Ft. Worth in 1939, and they celebrated 73 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 2012. Sylvester was a farmer and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange. Sylvester is survived by two sons; Charles Edward Sivek, and his wife Betty of Harlingen and Billy James Sivek, and his wife Diane of Fayetteville; one sister, Hattie Bessie Alexander of Harlingen; six grandchildren, Charles Sivek Jr. and his wife Lilla of Round Top, Lisa Marie Guererro and her husband Jaime of Harlingen, Tara Schomburg and her husband Chuck of La Grange, Amy Bertsch and her husband Loren of West Point, Carin Absnaider and her husband Cameron of Lincoln, and Denise Falls and her husband David of La Porte; two step-grandchildren, Tracy Shrader and her husband Bo of La Grange, and Thomas Poncik and his wife Brittany of Houston; eight great-grandchildren and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Robert Lee Sivek, four brothers and one sister. Family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
