Haney
Una May (Kruse) Haney, born the fifth child of Hilda (Luetge) Kruse and Ben Kruse in Willow Springs on June 30, 1928, peacefully left this world on March 8, 2018 at the age of 89 years in Bryan. In her youth, Una May moved from the farm she grew up in to Houston, and worked at One’s A Meal Restaurant. She was later employed as an Information Operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in downtown Houston for 28 years. Upon retiring in 1987, she moved to La Grange to be near her siblings. Una May cherished her sisters and brother. They spent many happy visits and phone calls reminiscing about being farm kids and laughing about their stories, some of which involved tattling on siblings. These good memories continued until recently. Una May had a devoted group of friends in Houston with whom she stayed connected with after her move to La Grange, a move that increased her cycle of friends. She enjoyed remembering events with the best birthday and holiday cards. She enjoyed shopping, whether in the big department stores or garage sales. Una May enjoyed her plants in her front and back yards, as well as her house plants. One of the highlights of her day was walking about 8 miles each day. She attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas and at times also attended First Baptist Church in La Grange. Upon moving to Bryan in 2013, she learned from the teachings of Pastor Charles Stanley of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Manor Assisted Living in Bryan, and to Hospice Brazos Valley who both delivered exceptional care. (Psalm 46:1-7) “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its water roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.” Una May, or “Eunice” as some fondly called her, will be deeply missed by her son, Russel and his wife Judy, of College Station; one granddaughter, Jessica Haney; and two great granddaughters: Rylie and Anabel. Other survivors include her two sisters: Talitha (Kruse) Gebhard of Willow Springs and Janet (Janicek) Roeder of Shiner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands: Pearly and Quintes Gebhard, and Minnie and Hilmer Gebhard; one brother, Lee and his wife Irma; and brothers-in-law: Elgin Gebhard and Melvin Roeder. Visitation was held on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 11 to 1 p.m. at Koenig and Strickland Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson St., La Grange, Texas 78945. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com. Koenig and Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
