Doris Elaine (Thompson) Potts, 85, of La Grange, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Friends and family called her Elaine, G’ma or GiGi. Elaine was born in Bison, Okla. on Jan. 24, 1933, the daughter of Joe B. Thompson and Gladys (Cole) Thompson. She married Orgill Warren Potts on June 13, 1951 in Durant, Okla. Elaine worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Tempe Police Department in Tempe, Arizona. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Arizona. Her many hobbies included needlepoint, and paper embroidery. Friends and family looked forward to receiving one of her handmade Christmas cards on which she lovingly worked many hours each year. Elaine enjoyed traveling all over the world, especially on luxury cruises. She and Orgill also enjoyed the camaraderie of RV park camping. She is survived by daughter, Janet Murphy and husband, Ed, of La Grange; sister, JoAnn Piatt and husband, Lee, of Ardmore, Okla.; brother, Dale Thompson and wife, Judy, of Vail, Ariz.; three grandchildren: Megan Huffstutler and husband, Shane, of Roanoke; Jenna McGregor and husband, Nathan, of Murphy; and Jeffrey Murphy and wife, Cathy, of St. Charles, Ill.; six great-grandchildren: Jake Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Jagger Murphy, Calyn Huffstutler, Colby Huffstutler and Harper McGregor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orgill; and brother, Douglas Thompson. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in La Grange at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
