Remember When?
March 15-19, 1968 An Austin couple dropped by the sheriff’s office on Saturday afternoon to report they saw two young men tearing down the Kirtley sign at the edge of that village. Sheriff T. J. Flournoy radioed Columbus police to be on the lookout for the vehicle they described. Deputy Sheriff Marvin Buller spotted the car and turned around to give chase before catching up to it at Sealy. Two young men were returned to La Grange and tried, but not having the ready cash, were jailed for several hours before their friends came to pay their fine.
Friends and relatives who had contributed to a memorial fund in honor of Merle Fay Koenig, R.N. were pleased that several new framed prints of paintings valued at over $500 had been hung in Fayette Memorial Hospital. This included: “Blue Bonnet Trail” by Salinas; “Woodland Stream” by Cropsey; “Christ Healing the Blind Man” by El Greche; “Motherhood” by Chaplin; and “Windward Shore” by Waugh.
