April Fool’s Day

The following confession will not come as a big surprise to anyone who has known me for any period of time. All of my life I have been mischievous … not really bad, but happy to be involved with a good practical joke. For that reason, the first day of April is one of my favorite dates. My poor, enduring, wife of 26 plus years has become so immune to it that this year, as she got ready for work, she said, “I know today is April Fool’s, so leave me alone!”

I think she was remembering last year when as she backed out of the garage I fell on the floor, holding my foot as if she had backed over it. She honked, waved, and pushed the button to close the overhead door! “What if you really had run over my foot?” I asked her later that day. “Well, you picked the wrong day and I guess you’d just had to drag yourself to the doctor.”
