Drowning Reported at Fayette Lake

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Monday, May 7, at around 2:26 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible drowning on the Fayette Power Plant Lake near Fayetteville. 

Emergency personnel responded along with Deputies C.J. Lehmann and Ryan Meagher.  Soon after arrival, Lehmann located the subject, and with the assistance of a passing boater, the victim was brought to shore. The victim was later pronounced deceased by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Sheila Coufal.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family. Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff's Office said the victim was a man in his mid-60s from the Houston area.

According to witness statements, the subject frequents the location to wade fish had been at the lake since early morning. Assisting with the incident along with numerous Sheriff Deputies and Investigators was Fayette County Medic Unit 2, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Calvin Harbaugh and the Lower Colorado River Authority Rangers.
