$2.7 Million in Meth Seized on Interstate 10
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, May 9, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit seized 27 kilograms of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
According to the sheriff's report, Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos stopped a Nissan Murano on Interstate 10 about a mile west of Schulenburg at approximately 11:38 a.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver and his wife, Korenek said Thumann noticed several conflicting details in their travel itinerary. "Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics from Mexico to Houston," Korenek's report said. "Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle."
Thumann deployed Lobos to conduct and exterior sweep of the vehicle. Lobos alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. Thumann observed the gas tank was being utilized to smuggle narcotics. Thumann accessed the gas tank and removed 16 bundles of Methamphetamies, weighing approximately 27 kilos with a street value of approximately $2.7 million.
The driver Felipe De Jesus Mendez Ramos, 29 of Mexico, was arrested for felony drug possession and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
