Schulenburg Veterans Hold Annual Memorial Day Service

Veterans groups including Schulenburg American Legion McBride Post No. 143, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5623, and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 held the annual Schulenburg Memorial Day Service at Wolters Park on Monday, May 28.

Fayette County Judge Ed Janecka was the guest speaker. Janecka is a veteran of the Vietnam War. In his speech, Janecka lamented what he called "the new religon of politics." He encourged people to "start talking about your differences instead of hollering at one another."

Master of Ceremonies James Brossmann reported that the local veterans groups placed more than 1,000 new American flags on the graves of deceased servicemen and women buried in the Schulenburg area.
