Some Friction Over Building of New Towers
Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative is putting up four tall communications towers around the area in county road rights-of-way. One resident in Swiss Alp said the tower near his property constitutes a traffic hazard and wants the county to stop the project.
“One day from my house I heard a truck pouring concrete and thought, ‘Well gollee, old (County Commissioner) Tom Muras is out there fixing the road,’” said Ralph Fisher, who lives on Berger Road. “The next day I went out and saw this thing as tall as the San Jacinto Monument.”
Fisher, perhaps the area’s most famous animal wrangler and a former rodeo bullfighter, is the chairman of the Committee to Keep Berger Road Beautiful, a group of neighbors who pick up litter on the road and maintain a pair of roadside trash cans.
“We don’t charge the county anything to keep it clean, but here Colorado Valley comes in and puts this thing in the barrow ditch,” Fisher said.
Fisher said he wished the Co-op would have spoken with neighbors before erecting the pole.
