Placke

Funeral services for Robert Placke, 88, of Giddings, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, will immediately follow in the Dodd Family Cemetery in Beat Five, Texas. Robert Lee Placke was born on Dec. 12, 1929 in Giddings, the son of Oscar and Flora Belle (Stork) Placke. He married Sue Marie Dodd on March 1, 1952 in Giddings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James R. Placke, and one sister, Rose Marie Christman. Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Marie Placke of Giddings; two sons, Dennis Placke and his wife, Vivian of Lockhart, and Scott Placke and his wife, Becky of East Africa; his daughter-in-law, Robin Bunch and her husband, Jim of Giddings; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Placke and his wife, Texene of Giddings; one sister, Callie Roark and her husband, John of Belton; three sisters-in-law, Marguerite Lawrence of Giddings, Brennice Koether of Giddings and Dorothy Koenig of Ledbetter as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the Placke family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dodd Family Cemetery Fund, 312 E. Richmond Street, Giddings, Texas 78942 or to the charity of one’s choice. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
