Hlavinka

Joseph H. Hlavinka, 94, of La Grange, died Saturday, June 23, 2018. Joseph was born in Scappoose, Oregon, on July 13, 1923, the son of Frank V. and Marie (Hlavinka) Hlavinka. He married Hattie (Masek) on June 16, 1947, at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1951. Joseph and Hattie attended the Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. where they were honored and recognized as the only couple that attended as a couple to have served in military. Joseph worked for Armco Steel in Houston for over 33 years. They retired to Kerrville, Texas in the Hill Country and in 2002 moved to La Grange. He was a member of the KJT, Knights of Columbus and VFW Post No. 5254. He enjoyed traveling overseas and traveling about the Hill Country with friends, 42 dominoes, doing handyman work. Joseph is survived by his wife, Hattie; one son, Don Hlavinka and wife, Rosanne of Richmond; granddaughter, Theresa M. Predrazus and husband, Nick; two grandsons: Christopher and Matthew Hlavinka and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Patricia Viaclovsky and husband, Jerome and Lucille Ferguson and husband, George. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Koenig - Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Koenig - Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations Chapel. Funeral Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Burial followed at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Grange, Texas or a charity of one’s choice. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.  Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
