Summer Activities

School is out for the summer and you know what that means – summer activities; summer camp, swimming, boating, canoeing, water skiing, lazy days at the beach and surfing. But how many people in this area own a surfboard or have tried surfing?

I tried surfing once. I got on the board, took off on a small wave, tried to stand up, fell off and the board hit me on the head. Luckily, it didn’t hit me hard enough to even cause a bump on my head, but that’s all it took for me to say, “No thank you. It’s not the sport for me. It’s hard and it’s dangerous.”

The surfing gear is pretty simple: a surfboard, surfboard wax, a wet suit, surfboard leash, earplugs, surfboard bag and sunscreen. Sounds simple, but can be quite expensive. If you are a beginner, it is suggested that you start with a larger board. It will help you in the water.
