2,500 Marijuana Plants Seized Near Kirtley
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from four other law enforcement agencies, seized 2,500 marijuana plants found growing near Kirtley on Thursday, July 19. No arrests have been made.
According to a report from Sheriff Keith Korenek, the bust happened around 1:30 p.m.
Local deputies, investigators from the Sheriff’s narcotics unit, and agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, Texas Department of Public Safety Task Force, Homeland Security and the DEA’s Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program conducted a raid on a growing operation along Barton Creek off SH 71 in the Kirtley area.
Kirtley is located near the Fayette-Bastrop County Line, about 16 miles west of La Gragne and three miles east of the Smithville city limits.
The agents seized approximately 2,500 marijuana plants that were found growing in a clearing.
Officers searched the area on the ground and in the air by helicopter for several hours looking for whomever was caring for the plants. They could find no one, the Sheriff’s report stated.
