Remember when?

Aug. 9-13, 1968

Although damage was not extensive, La Grange volunteer firemen were called out twice in just over an hour to a house owned by Emma Williams on First Alley in the northern part of town. When firemen responded to the first call at 12:30 p.m., they found a fire “with a good start” in the living room. Then at 1:40 p.m., they were called again when the fire blazed anew in an adjoining clothes closet.

Billy Glaiser, the flashy third baseman for the La Grange Jaycee Demons baseball club, was selected for that position with the state National Baseball Congress allstar team following a tournament in Lubbock. Glaiser had belted out 10 base hits in 22 trips to the plate for a hefty .454 batting average. Two of his bingles went for doubles and he had two runs batted in. He made only one error in handling 25 chances at the hot corner. When not playing baseball for the Jaycee Demons, Glaiser taught and coached at Sheridan High School in Colorado County.
