Phi Beta Cat-a
Living with cats (even outside cats) is a bit like watching fraternity pledging mixed with a little bit of multiple personality disorder.
In fraternities, the older active members think they have the power and privilege, telling the younger pledges what to do. At our house I witness this behavior daily with our three cats.
The older cat, Oliver, is always at the door waiting for his breakfast and his morning scratch behind the ears. He meows loudly as soon as I open the door and then blocks my every step, even when the steps are in the direction of the food closet. It’s a wonder I haven’t tripped over him in the process. If I forget the scratch behind the ears, a paw reaches up to remind me. If I ignore that, the claws come out a bit and my hand is brought to his mouth where he lightly nips my hand to let me know who is really the boss. Other times he will pull away when you try to pet him. But either way, he makes sure that he gets fed first.
