James Kovar, 70, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. James was born in La Grange on Feb. 27, 1948, the son of Willie and Angeline (Kulhanek) Kovar. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and attended Texas A&M University. James took a break from his education and enlisted in the Army Reserves. He then completed his college education at Sam Houston State University. James moved to Houston and worked at the St. Luke’s Cancer Research Dept. and continued his career in the oil and gas industry in Houston. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Fayette County. His many hobbies included photography and traveling, especially to Europe, where he arranged guided tours. James also was a history and science buff and a collector of stamps, coins and other collectibles. James is survived by a brother, Randy Kovar and wife, Kim; niece, Robyn Ulrich and husband, Travis, all of La Grange; nephew, Ross Kovar of College Station, two great nephews, one great niece and “another on the way.” He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margie Kovar. A visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger. A Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. with a funeral service to follow beginning at 11 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.  Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
