Lucille (Janssen) Voelkel
Lucille (Janssen) Voelkel, 92, of La Grange, died Sept. 30, 2018 at St. Mark’s Hospital in La Grange. Lucille was an only child born to Alfred and Martha Petzold Janssen on Sept. 19, 1926 in La Grange. She was baptized in October 1926 and confirmed in November 1939. Lucille was a 1944 graduate of La Grange High School. On March 22, 1947 she married Aubrey D. (Red) Voelkel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange. Lucille was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Fayette County Fair Association, a Charter Member of Ladies Auxillary VFW, and a Charter Member of the La Grange Dance Club and the Big Band Dance Club. Lucille loved her faith, family, friends and also God’s creatures especially her special pets, Zeke and Zoe. She was a loving and wonderful mother and Granny. She was a true role model to everyone who knew her with her amazing positive attitude. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on the many LCRA trips and loved attending many sporting and band events. Lucille was proud to live in the small town of La Grange and spent many hours volunteering at various community activities. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Red and her son, Malcolm Voelkel. She is survived by her daughters Phyllis and husband, Tony Atchley of Blue; Brenda and husband, Jeff Early of The Woodlands, daughter-inlaw Brenda Voelkel of Spring; grandchildren Dane Atchley (Crystal Knodel), Briana Atchley Holliday (Daryl), Kyle Atchley (Michelle), Megan Voelkel Gaston (Jeff), Lance Voelkel (Michelle), Lauren, Alyssa and Kathryn Early; great- grandchildren Britton and Sutton Holliday, McKenzie and Hayden Atchley, Graham and Shepard Gaston and Lyle and Mabry Voelkel; extended family Rhonda Koether and Paul Mikula. The family would like to thank Debbie Bosque and the staff at Jefferson Place who cared for Lucille the last 2½ years and we appreciate you making her feel at home with your kindness and dedication. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Mark’s Hospital and Brazos Valley Hospice for your care and comfort. The family received friends on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home at 967 E. Colorado in La Grange. A private graveside burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018.
