La Grange Police Warn about Man Claiming to Work for City
La Grange Police Department are warning citizens about a man who tried to enter a citizen's home while claiming to work for the City's water department.
The citizen reported to police that a Hispanic male, possibly in his 30s knocked on the door around 6:30 p.m. Monday night, Oct. 15, and said that he needed to come inside and test the water. The subject was wearing a blue jacket and carrying a black binder. The subject also was wearing some sort of badge. The female citizen would not let the subject insideher home. The subject asked for the citizen's phone number. The female gave the subject a phone number and then the subject left. The citizen to police that the subject did not appear to have a vehicle in front of the residence. The subject did not speak English very well.
The subject did not work for the La Grange Water Department or any other known County or State agency.
"Most agencies are not going to knock on your door at 6:30 p.m. in the evening," the department said in a Facebook post Tuesday morning. "Do not let anyone in your house that you are not sure of. If you are unsure if they are legitimate, call the Police or Sheriff's Department and let us arrive and determine if they are legitimate. The female in this case was wise to not let the subject in. She was correct in believing that the way this happened did not seem right. Trust your instincts. This is a common scam. Please report these kinds of instances to Police so that we can be aware of any potential subjects looking to do harm."
