Sheriff's Office Releases Details about Deputy Injured in Last Night's Shooting
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy shot in the incident last night, Nov. 1, at the Carter Motel in La Grange as Calvin "C.J." Lehmann.
Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff's Office said Lehmann was shot in the face and lost sight in one eye. Doctors are trying to save the other eye, he said.
Lehmann, along with other Fayette County Deputies, were assisting La Grange Police Department in apprehending a wanted felon who had just assaulted a La Grange PD Officer.
"CJ volunteered to take the lead in breaching the door because he was wearing a ballistic vest," said Sheriff Kieth Korenek in a statement released Friday morning. "In doing so, CJ was shot in the face with a shotgun. He is in an Austin Hospital in Critical Condition."
Lehmann is a 32-year-old single father of three daughters.
Anyone who would like to assist CJ financially may make a contribution to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Memorial and Benevolent Society. In the “For” section, please put “CJ”. All funds received for CJ will go directly to him to assist him financially. CJ is a single dad with three daughters. Donations for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Memorial and Benevolent Society may be sent to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, C/O FCSMBS, at 1646 N. Jefferson St, La Grange, TX 78945.
