La Grange and Giddings High School students are teaming up for some friendly competition to help support local law enforcement in the wake the shooting last week that injured a local officer.

Last Thursday, November 1, the La Grange and Giddings communities were devastated to learn that Fayette County Deputy Calvin “C.J.” Lehmann was shot in the line of duty.  In response the two high school are organizing a “Coins for Cops” collection this week.

Coins will be collected during English classes today through Friday at noon. All proceeds to benefit the Fayette County Deputy CJ Lehmann Benevolent Fund. The class and school with the most coins collected will be announced at Friday’s pep rallies ahead of the big rivalry football game between La Grange and Giddings. The total amount will be announced at the football game Friday night, Nov. 9.

In addition, all La Grange and Giddings High School students are asked to wear Blue or their favorite “Back the Blue” t-shirt.  This will not only be a class competition but a school competition between Giddings and La Grange.
