Nov. 1-5, 1968
For the first time in over half a century, three major parties had presidential and vice presidential candidates vying for the two top offices of the land in the Nov. 5th federal election. The lineup for the Democratic Party was Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota, who was serving as vice president and running for president, with Edward S. Muskie, a senator from Maine, as his vice president. Former vice president Richard M. Nixon of California was running for president on the Republican Party ticket with Spiro T. Agnew, governor of Maryland, as his vice president. The American Party’s candidates were George C. Wallace, former governor of Alabama, for president, and Curtis LeMay, retired U.S. Army general, for vice president.
