Grieving and the Holidays
Just a Thought
Thanksgiving for most people is a joyous occasion that entails getting together with friends and family, eating favorite foods, watching a football game or two, or other traditions that you may have.
However, when a family member or close friend is no longer with you at these occasions, it often brings sadness. The first Thanksgiving without them, the first Christmas without them – holidays are often hard. When that person’s death occurred at or around the holiday itself, those feelings are intensified and that holiday is forever changed.
For our family, that holiday is Thanksgiving. My brother was killed in a car wreck during the week of Thanksgiving 12 years ago. There is not a year that goes by where my family doesn’t think of him during that time.
