LG Sweeps Giddings in District Hoops Doubleheader

Victories against the Giddings boys have been scarce the last few years for the La Grange basketball team.

But in a thrilling contest in front of a huge crowd at Lep gym Friday, La Grange earned a 46-41 victory in the district opener for both teams.

La Grange senior Kayton Powell scored nine of his gamehigh 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Leps, who now have a 13-6 overall record, their best start in years.

“This feels good,” Powell said. “We haven’t beaten them since my freshman year, feels good to come in our gym and protect our house.”

These teams stayed within a few points of each other all night, but with Giddings clinging to a 31-30 lead with 5:15 left in the game, La Grange’s Dawson Loehr put the Leps up to stay with a three-pointer.
