January Sales Taxes Up for City, County

A single month “doth not a year make,” but January’s sales tax check at least made a good start for La Grange’s economy.

State Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent La Grange a check for $161,198 as its January share of sales taxes collected locally. That’s up just over 2 percent from last January’s check.

And though 2 percent doesn’t sound like much, it’s considerably better than most Texas cities got. Two other Fayette County towns did even better. Carmine’s check for January was up 8.9 percent and Fayetteville’s was up 6.5 percent.
