Funeral services for Erwin Schulze, 87, of Winchester, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester with Pastor Nate Hill officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Erwin William Schulze was born on Sept. 7, 1931 in the San Community in Bastrop County to Ernest Herman and Martha Anna (Schubert) Schulze. He was baptized on Sept. 20, 1931 by Rev. Erich Moebus and confirmed on March 25, 1945 by Rev. Edward Rathgeber both at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester. His confirmation verse was Psalm 1:1, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful”. Erwin was united in marriage to Mildred Edith Schroeder on April 24, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville. This union was blessed with three children, Steven, Barbara, and Janet. Erwin was a X-Ray technician for Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester where he served as an Elder and a Sunday school teacher. Erwin enjoyed farming and ranching, gardening, coon hunting, fishing, going to church and taking care of his family. Erwin died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 in Lexington. He is preceded in death his parents, Ernest and Martha Schulze; wife, Mildred Schulze; step-mother, Ernestine Schulze; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Hildred Schulze, Wilbert and Murrel Schulze, and Elton and Hermine Schulze, and one brother-in-law, Elmer Nietsche. Erwin is survived by his three children, Steven Schulze and wife Jan of Katy, Barbara Symm and husband, Michael of Serbin, and Janet Campbell of Lexington; six grandchildren, Robert Schulze and wife, Lachele of Katy, Timothy Symm and wife, Stephanie of Serbin, Bradley Campbell of Round Rock, Andrea Goedrich and husband, Jordan of Ozona, Erica Iselt and husband, Stephen of Serbin, and Amanda Thevis and husband, Josh of Katy; four great grandchildren, Lucas, Holden, Cira, and Kamdyn; and one sister, Adeline Nietsche of Warda. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
