McKenzie Murder Trial May Move Out of County After Judge Felt Jury was “Tainted”
The Derrick McKenzie capital murder trial may be heading out of the county.
District Judge Jeff Steinhauser declared a mistrial on the first day of jury selection last Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The district clerk called about 350 potential jurors for the case. During the jury selection process, prosecution attorney Tina Richardson asked the panel of prospective jurors about circumstances that could prevent them from fairly judging the case. Some of the prospective jurors said they could not fairly judge McKenzie because they knew “what happened before,” as one of them put it.
